Horizon Power is a state-owned energy provider serving residents and businesses across regional and remote Western Australia. Built on Optimizely, its digital estate includes multiple web properties: the Horizon Power corporate site, the customer-facing MyAccount portal, and sites for remote communities. These platforms are mission-critical for customer service and must meet the high governance and compliance standards expected of a state-owned enterprise.
In 2025, Horizon Power engaged First Three Things to address mounting technical debt in their aging Optimizely CMS. We upgraded their platform to Optimizely CMS 12, ensuring long-term vendor support and modern .NET alignment.
As a state-owned utility, Horizon Power operates under strict governance, compliance, and audit standards. Our delivery model and architecture-first design approach were tailored to meet these expectations.
Highlights:
CMS 11 → 12 Upgrade: Delivered on time and on budget, modernising Horizon Power’s entire web estate and aligning it to Optimizely’s roadmap.
Technical Debt Reduction: Retired brittle dependencies, refactored legacy code, and restored long-term maintainability.
Governance Assurance: Delivered solution design and reporting artefacts tailored for audit and compliance, meeting the high standards of a state-owned utility.
Platform Stability: Legacy risks eliminated, performance improved, and deployments made faster and more reliable.
Feature Enhancements: Scoped and resolved analytics, portal UX, and redirect requirements in a structured way.
Future-Readiness: Horizon Power is now positioned to adopt advanced Optimizely modules including ODP, Personalisation, and Experimentation.
Reduced TCO: Lower maintenance burden and faster deployments reduce ongoing cost of ownership.
What the client said…
"FTT did an excellent job delivering our Optimizely CMS upgrade from version 11 to 12. The project was complex, but Johnny and his team made it feel easy with clear communication, strong technical skills, and a real focus on collaboration.
They helped us move to a modern, scalable platform with minimal disruption, whilst keeping things on track. I’d happily recommend FTT for any Optimizely upgrade or CMS project – they’re a great team to work with!"
